Nature of the Work
While work as a home health care live in aid or professional is rewarding, it is also demanding, both physically and emotionally. The nature of the work varies on a job-by-job, case-by-case basis; still, many of the job responsibilities will include heavy lifting, and exposure to contagious viruses. Live in care jobs, also, can be emotionally taxing, requiring the aid personally investing much of their time and emotions in the care for a single individual.

Depending on the type of live in care professional, the job descriptions will vary. Duties may include assisting with household chores, doing shopping, engaging the patient in social activities, cooking, cleaning, and laundry services. Duties also may include assisting the patient on more personal matters, such as bathing, feeding, dressing, caring for teeth and hair, and assisting with bathroom function. Not every aide is always called upon, or qualified, to do all of the listed activities. Sometimes the duties may be limited to only house hold chores, while other times there may be combination of both household and personal care chores.

Training and Work
Requirements and job descriptions for live in care jobs vary on a case-by-case basis. Different authorities have different education and experience requirements for home health care aides, and the training for nurses varies on the program and type of degree.

For the most part, it is best if the aid engages in some type of formal training. Training can be varied, including courses at a school, community college, or local community center. Many health care agencies also provide training for professionals seeking live in care jobs. Courses can last be as long as one week, several months, or a few years. However, for most people seeking a simple live in care aid job, training often lasts no longer then a few months.
